Visage of Dread is a compact artifact that punishes sloppy hands and rewards timing. When Visage of Dread enters the battlefield you make a targeted opponent lay their hand open and then pick an artifact or creature card for them to discard. In practice this lets you strip a combo piece, remove a key blocker, or take away a threat before it resolves.

The card also offers a late game upside with craft. Craft with two creatures for 5{B} turns the artifact into a permanent threat under your control that can swing the board back in your favor. Use it to pressure life totals or to force unfavorable blocks. The flavor fits Lost Caverns of Ixalan by turning a small exploratory tool into something dangerous when properly assembled.
