Tishana's Tidebinder is a compact answer piece for blue decks that need interaction on other players turns. As a Creature Merfolk Wizard with flash, Tishana's Tidebinder can hold up mana and appear when a critical activated or triggered ability resolves. The enter the battlefield trigger reads cleanly and targets at most one activated or triggered ability so you can shut down a key play without committing a stack of counters or spells.

Beyond being a tempo play, Tishana's Tidebinder imposes a persistent penalty when it counters an ability of an artifact, creature, or planeswalker. That permanent loses all its abilities while Tishana's Tidebinder remains on the battlefield. In practice this turns off utility pieces and stops recurring loops while leaving the board state otherwise intact. For control pilots and tempo builders in The Lost Caverns of Ixalan environment this card is efficient and straightforward to sequence.
