Souls of the Lost is a compact black creature that trades setup for immediate board presence. The card asks you to pay an additional cost to cast it by discarding a card or sacrificing a permanent which makes it a deliberate inclusion in decks that can leverage graveyard value. Played early, Souls of the Lost can pressure opponents while you build a graveyard engine to grow its printed statistic into a meaningful threat.

Mechanically the card rewards permanence in your yard. Its Fathomless descent ability ties power and toughness to permanent cards in your graveyard so each land, creature, and artifact you sacrifice or mill upgrades its size. In a control shell the card is a situational activator for recursion lines. In an aggressive shell it is a low cost body that scales as the game drifts into the midrange stages.
