Solemn Simulacrum slots into decks that value steady ramp and card advantage. The creature arrives for four colorless mana and functions as a one time tutor for a basic land while entering the battlefield tapped. In practice this buys you a turn or two of tempo in decks that need consistent mana fixing and it plays well with sacrifice effects that trigger on death.

The second ability is the reason this card still appears in many Commander lists. When the creature dies you may draw a card which converts a body and a land search into virtual card advantage.
