Scout the Currents
River Herald Scout is a compact tool for tempo and card selection that slots cleanly into most blue decks. At {1}{U} the 1 2 body is modest but functional, and the explore trigger gives you immediate information. If the top card is a land you replace the Scout in hand and keep developing on curve. If not you grow the Scout with a +1/+1 counter and either mill the top card or leave it for later reads. That makes the card flexible in both early defensive roles and later incremental advantage.
In Lost Caverns of Ixalan lore the Merfolk Scouts map submerged ruins and bring what they find back to the current. In play the River Herald Scout rewards sequencing and library awareness. It pairs well with cantrips and cards that care about counters or the graveyard. Use it to shore up your early mana, to tax removal, or to push through chip damage once it survives the first few turns.
