Preacher of the Schism — Quiet Bite
Preacher of the Schism gives you a compact clock and value engine in black decks that like to trade life totals. The card reads cleanly as both a removal deterrent and a token generator because deathtouch forces unfavorable blocks while the triggered attack trigger creates 1/1 white Vampire tokens with lifelink for the opponent with the highest life. Play it on turn three to pressure larger creatures or to chip away at an opponent while building a board your life total can leverage.
There is a second attack trigger that rewards you for keeping the lead on life totals by letting you draw and then lose a life point. That exchange is useful in control matchups and in attrition builds where incremental card advantage matters. Preacher of the Schism fits naturally into Vampire tribal, midrange decks that value incremental advantage, and any list that wants a resilient attacker that scales with life swings.
