Malfunction is a compact tempo tool for blue players who need to buy time and control the battlefield. Malfunction enters attached to an artifact or creature, immediately tapping the permanent and then keeping it locked down by preventing it from untapping during its controller's untap step. The card name and effect fit cleanly into blue's playbook of disruption and incremental advantage, useful in both early skirmishes and slow grindy games.
Use Malfunction to neutralize a key blocker, knock a combo piece out of commission, or stall a utility artifact while you assemble answers. The single instance you see on the board often forces opponents to play around it and changes combat math. Play it on turn three with mana left over or later as a tactical removal alternative; either way Malfunction trades tempo for ongoing denial, and it pairs well with bounce or removal effects to convert that denial into card advantage.
