Flare of Denial

Flare of Denial brings precise counterplay to a blue control plan. For {1}{U}{U}, you can counter a spell, and you may sacrifice a nontoken blue creature instead of paying the spell's mana cost. The Near Mint Foil edition adds a tactile shimmer that enhances the blue hues as you plan your tempo turns. That extra option lets you extend threats while keeping your mana free for your next move. In Modern Horizons 3, it’s a sturdy addition to any tempo or control shell.

Foil treatment catches the light as you execute a carefully timed interruption, signaling to your opponent that the next spell is under your gaze. Use it to protect your win conditions, disrupt their engine, and keep the pace of the game on your terms. The card’s efficiency pairs well with other countermagic in the set, supporting clean, reliable play rather than high-variance sequences.
