If that creature dies later that turn you get a 2/2 white and blue Detective token, which buys you tempo and keeps a defensive option on the table.
From a Karlov Manor perspective this spell is practical for surprise attackers and clean trades. Use it to push damage through, to save mana for other interactions, or to trade profitably while still generating board value. The card reads simply and performs predictably which makes it a reliable inclusion in aggressive builds and red splashes that appreciate incidental value.
