Drag the Canal is a compact removal and value tool that fits into control and investigatory decks with ease. For the cost of one blue and one black mana you create a 2/2 white and blue Detective token that pressures the board while advancing card advantage. If a creature died earlier in the turn the spell rewards you further by giving you two life, letting you surveil two to shape the top of your library, and creating a Clue for a later draw.
Play it as a tempo play to replace a lost blocker or as a follow up after a trade to cash in additional value. The combination of life gain, library manipulation, and a Clue token makes it useful in both midrange and control builds where incremental advantages win long games.
