The timing window of an Instant lets you answer threats on the opponent turn while still preserving your own combat math and tempo.
Use the card when you need to reset an unfavorable exchange or to clear a blocker while still setting the battlefield for your next draw. In Outlaws of Thunder Junction the flavor is blunt and pragmatic. The ox token is more than a consolation prize.
